Copyrite 2010 - Ridgefield Newcomers PO Box 344 Ridgefield CT 06877 - design by ORS

Believe it or not, this is the last newsletter of the Newcomers’ year. It’s been a wonderful year filled with lots of great events, new friends, and good times. From our perspective, it’s been inspiring to see so many new faces showing up at events, getting involved in Newcomers, and really taking advantage of all that our wonderful town has to offer. We’ve spent the past year running the club because we love our town, and love sharing it with people who are just starting to discover it.
While we’ve had a great time serving as co-presidents, we’re thrilled to be passing the torch to two people who we’ve gotten to know on the board this year and who will do an even better job next year. Monika Sobocinksi and Elizabeth Purcell will be next year’s co-presidents and we are convinced they are they perfect people to lead the club next year. In addition, our member-at-large, Jayne Olson, did an amazing job recruiting next year’s board, and we know we’re leaving the club in good hands. There is lots to look forward to next year.
Having said that, this year isn’t over yet! There’s still fun to be had in June, with our big event for the month being the June Winetasters, which will feature Chilean wines and will serve as a fundraiser to support victims of the earthquake in Chile. In addition, Men’s Golf is having a special event on June 4th to kick of the golf season, and Bunco, Knit Together and Ladies’ Lunch Out will all be meeting this month as well.
Lastly, this past month featured our two large-scale annual events and they were both big hits. Many, many thanks to Peggy Honore and Erin McMurray, who along with the Philanthropy Committee, Ladies Night Out, Lucy’s and Shine Salon put on the amazing “Rock the Runway” fashion show that raised over $3,000 for RMAC (Ridgefield Music and Arts Center).
As we go to press, we’re recovering from the fifth annual Gala, expertly organized by Kerri Austin and Aimee Roberts, who along with the rest of the Gala committee organized Ridgefield’s Casino Royale, which gave all of us the change to get together for an evening of fun with our fellow Newcomers, while also raising money for CHIRP, the concert series in Ballard Park on Tuesday evenings in the summer.
And speaking of CHIRP, mark your calendars and join our new co-presidents at the CHIRP concert on August 24th. More info will be showing up in your inboxes, on the website, and in the Ridgefield Press later in the summer.
Finally, before we sign off, the most important thank you we have to give is to everyone one of the 200 families that are members of this club. We’re both getting to the point of being “oldtimers” in town, but we’re a part of this club because it made us feel welcome when we first came to town, and the only reason the club continues to be the great organization it is is because of all the wonderful, enthusiastic, fun members who, like us, just want to get out, meet some neighbors, and have a good time.
Enjoy the summer, and know that when the weather starts to get chilly, it’ll be time for a new season of Newcomers to warm you up!
