They say that money can’t buy happiness, but does it buy better wine? We’ll dive into that question at the first Winetasters of the Newcomers year by comparing different, similar wines at different price points. Can you tell a $5 Shiraz from a $20 one, or even a $40 one? Are you sick of people laughing at your Two Buck Chuck because you’ve had Petrus and thought it was lousy? Or maybe you think all wine under $20 is a waste of time? Well, time to put your preconceptions to the test and see how things really stack up. We’ll provide different wines of the same varietal – and where possible, the same region and vintage - that vary only in their price, spanning the budget rack to the top shelf. Side by side, we’ll get a unique chance to see if price really does mean quality. Then, as has become our tradition, we’ll have a little fun with a blind tasting, and give everyone the chance to really put their assumptions to the test trying to put a series of wines in price order using nothing but their eyes, noses and palates.
Cost is $20 per person, or $15 and an appetizer to share with the group. Please RSVP by Sept 1 – especially if you plan to bring a dish, so we can plan accordingly!
Please RSVP to winetasters@newcomers.org or register via the website.
Payment can be made through the PayPal link on the Newcomers website, or by sending Checks made payable to Newcomers Club of Ridgefield to the Bonheims at 85 Fulling Mill Lane.
