TEEN SCENE - Breakneck Ridge Loop - Hudson River, New York

Put down your phones and get ready to bond in the great outdoors!  This isn't your typical lackadaisical hike. Breakneck will challenge you and get your heart pumping.  


Your reward? Beautiful views of the Hudson River, a sense of accomplishment and getting to know some great kids.  You can do this!

Sunday, September 27th

Depart Ridgefield: 12:30pm at Stop & Shop parking lot near Jersey Mike's Subs; we will coordinate car pools

Return Ridgefield: Approximately 6:30 pm, same location

Hike Description:

This loop hike steeply climbs Breakneck Ridge, with many spectacular views over the Hudson River. 

Despite its relatively short length, this is generally considered to be the most strenuous hike in the East Hudson Highlands. It involves steep climbs over rock ledges.

Time: 3.5 hours

Difficulty: Strenuous

Length: 2.8 miles


You'll need to:

  • Wear hiking boots or sneakers and gloves for grip
  • Bring water and snacks in a back pack which you will carry
  • Dress for the weather
Kate Hartford will lead the teens on this hike.  She has experience with this trail and will be a wealth of knowledge for the kids.  Parents will follow behind in their own group.  This event is for middle school kids and High School kids.  Middle Schoolers must have one parent with them.  Once you begin the hike, there is no turning back.

NOTE: Rain will cancel this event!! 
**Parents are encouraged to attend as well. Be sure you and your kids are physically able to attempt this strenuous hike.
