We hope you will join us this month as we discuss a classic - The Scarlet Letter, by Nathaniel Hawthorne.  Please bring something small to share with the group - either a beverage or snack.

Hawthorne's classic novel is a searing condemnation of hypocrisy and callousness in Puritan America. Roger Chillingworth, an ageing scholar, arrives in New England after two years separation from his wife Hester to find her on trial for adultery. Because she refuses to reveal the identity of her lover and the father of her child, she is condemned to wear a letter ‘A’ sewn onto her clothes. Roger resolves to discover and destroy the man who has stolen his honour, and for the next seven years, the participants in this bizarre love triangle suffer the consequences of betrayal, cowardice, and humiliation.

Several copies of our monthly selection will be on hold at the Ridgefield Library by mid-January.  Please ask at the main circulation desk for a copy to borrow.
